AI Working Group

To keep pace with the modern era of AI evolution, the AI Working Group, comprised of major brands, AI companies, academics, mental health professionals, advocacy orgs, and more will convene to address the risks and benefits of the use of AI for children and teens.

Mapping AI Risk

The AI Working Group, which began as an initiative of BBB National Programs’ Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) and its Supporters, met over a 15-month period to examine both the potential benefits and risks of generative AI and other emerging technologies as they are adopted across these industries. This group met monthly, discussing the online advertising, privacy, and safety issues brands and companies face when designing and developing their online services directed to children using generative AI.

The AI Working Group released The Generative AI & Kids Risk Matrix, a set of realistic, actionable considerations and best practices to help companies identify and mitigate AI-related risks specific to children, while also equipping parents and consumers with tools to understand potential harms and take informed, protective actions.
